THE END of the World is closer than at any time since the Cold War, a group of scientists is set to declare this week.
The keepers of a symbolic Doomsday Clock - a world-famous symbol designed by the US-based Bulletin of Atomic Scientists to chart how close we are to Armaggedon - have announced they are moving its hands forward. According to the University of Chicago-based organisation, worsening climate change and the increasing threat of nuclear war are threatening our survival. The clock's hands will be moved forward next Wednesday. The clock, which has appeared on the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists magazine's front cover since 1947, is currently set at seven minutes to midnight - with midnight marking global catastrophe. In a news release previewing next Wednesday's event, which will be co-hosted by the British physicist Stephen Hawking, the organisation would not say exactly how far the clock would be moved forward - but explained that a change was necessary because of "worsening nuclear, climate threats" to the world. "The major new step reflects growing concerns about a 'Second Nuclear Age' marked by grave threats, including: nuclear ambitions in Iran and North Korea, unsecured nuclear materials in Russia and elsewhere, the continuing 'launch-ready' status of 2,000 of the 25,000 nuclear weapons held by the US and Russia; escalating terrorism; and new pressure from climate change for expanded civilian nuclear power that could increase proliferation risks," it said. The clock was last pushed forward by two minutes to seven minutes to midnight in 2002, amid concerns about the proliferation of nuclear, biological and other weapons and the threat of terrorism in the aftermath the attacks on September 11, 2001. The last time it was closer than that to midnight was in 1988, when the Cold War was beginning to show its first signs of coming to an end and the clock showed 11.54pm. With the time set to be put forward again, it is inevitable that it will be at a closer point to midnight than at any time since that year - and perhaps closer. When it was created by the magazine's staff in 1947, it was initially set at seven minutes to midnight and has moved 17 times since then. It was as close as two minutes to midnight in 1953 following U.S. and Soviet hydrogen bomb tests - and as far away as 17 minutes to midnight in 1991 in a wave of optimism as the Soviet Communist regime collapsed and the superpowers reached agreement on a nuclear arms reductions.

A UFO scare was sparked after the police were flooded with calls about a fleet of 'spaceships' invading the coast of Britain.

Thousands of people spotted the bright orange orbs off the Channel coast at Brighton.
Police and air traffic control centres were inundated by reports of the strange spectacle, the Daily Express reported.
Shocked witness James Gordon-Johnson said: "I hadn't been drinking. I was sceptical about UFOs before but this has changed my mind.
"I saw this big orange light in the sky. Then another one appeared in mid-air. Then another. And another."
Experts are baffled by the phenomenon, but believe it could be linked to a meteor shower.
The Hermstmonceux Observatory in East Sussex said a cloud of comet dust had produced a meteor shower which peaked with a display of shooting stars.
And an earlier Ministry of Defence study into UFOs concluded that many sightings could be "glowing clouds of gas created by electricity charges."

I am so tired..... I haven't slept a wink....

I was already lying in my bed... I couldn't sleep... I am restless... Why? Usually being restless is
a sign of change... I like change and i fear it as well... Guess what: positive change is what i am most afraid of!! It has been a bumpy ride so far, so when i am at the end of my 'metal road' standing in front of a fresh tarred high way, i hesitate!

hesitates, masturbates'. You see, the only cure for being so serious about everything is having a
friend around who takes nothing seriously!
Anyway, i was still lying, eyes wide open, in my bed thinking about categories... So i got up and tagged all my post in order to get them categorized with del.icio.us... Not the best way I can think of, but the best i am capable of, with my newbie knowledge of html... Did you notice I sometimes write capital 'I' and sometimes the little 'i' . This is inconsistent, but i just
wonder why should i write I? Am I better? Or am I / i the only one wondering about this??

The eye of God

This is a picture taken by NASA with the Hubble telescope. They are referring to it as the "Eye of God". I thought it was beautiful and worth sharing.

Comments: This is indeed an authentic photograph — or rather, composite of photos — taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. It was featured on NASA's Website as an Astronomy Picture of the Day in May 2003 and thereafter posted on a number of Websites under the title "The Eye of God" (though I couldn't find evidence that NASA has ever referred to it as such). The awe-inspiring image has also been featured on magazine covers and in articles about space imagery.
The image depicts the so-called Helix Nebula, described by astronomers as "a trillion-mile-long tunnel of glowing gases." At its center is dying, Sun-like star which has ejected masses of dust and gas to form tentacle-like filaments stretching toward an outer rim composed of the same material. The Sun itself may look like this in several billion years.

Now I think of going somewhere else, maybe just a Dutch weblog... I like to go international, since I traveled a lot, but if there is no response it gets a bit boring...

They left him, i think he looked mad enough!

His name is Rick Peterson and he plays gitar like he... anyway, I don't get to much into details here...I hitchiked with him through the jungle of Brazil when i was 19 and he 39.... We had no money, no food, no hitchhike to catch .... there was only a metal road leading us into the dark.....

He has been seen in Paris a year ago by another friend...

De spelers van het Maiwandteam uit de hoofdstad Kabul kunnen hier hoogstens de bal wat heen en weer trappen, meer ruimte is er niet. Een sprintje trekken is onmogelijk, daarvoor is het veld te klein. Toch is dit hun enige kans om buiten te trainen. Het voetbalstadion is voor vrouwenteams verboden terrein, daar kunnen mannen toekijken en dat is niet toegestaan. Vrouwenvoetbal in Afghanistan: dat is ook in het post-Taliban tijdperk alleen in het verborgene mogelijk.
“Wie als vrouw voetbalt, moet moedig zijn”, zegt de 21-jarige Khadija die als teamcaptain verantwoordelijk is voor de organisatie: ze regelt de voetbalshirts, plekken om te slapen bij uitwedstrijden en de dagen en tijden wanneer er getraind wordt. Haar durf blijkt ook uit haar keuze voor de opleiding tot politieagent. Ze volgt haar lessen aan de politie-akademie in het westen van Kabul. Het Maiwandteam mag in de sporthal van de akademie trainen, veilig afgeschermd van mannelijke blikken. Toch wordt ook binnen getraind in broeken tot aan de enkels en lange mouwen en blijft de hoofddoek om. “Westerse kleding dragen zou levensgevaarlijk zijn”, zegt Khadija.
